YIHR BiH: state is directly responsible for racial discrimination

Youth Initiative for Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina (YIHR BiH) participates in development of the NGO’s report on implementation of the Convention on Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) together with representatives of the Human Rights House Sarajevo, Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbian Civil Council, Croatian National Council, Roma community, Jewish community in Sarajevo and European law Students Association (ELSA) in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

One of the items on the agenda of the Committee for Elimination of Racial Discrimination that will convene in August this year will be Bosnia and Herzegovina, and nongovernment organisations are preparing a list of questions deemed relevant and so far too little discussed i.e. areas in which the institutions, groups and individuals most frequently violated the Convention in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Both general public and CERD are required to place the issues of discrimination in election system, independence of Ombudsman institution, status of Roma population, and fight against fascist organisation and development of a legal frame regulating procedures for the state institutions to fight against the organisations and groups disseminating hate into the focus of discussions.

On behalf of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR BiH) we condemn passivity and inactivity of Bosnia and Herzegovina institutions and competent ministries, which put no effort in cooperation and reform for the purpose of full implementation of the convention and realisation of a society without discrimination based on ethnic, religious, lingual and national origin.
