YIHR and 'Oštra Nula' Activists Remind – Empty Promises Are the Best Advertising

The Youth Initiative for Human Rights B&H (YIHR B&H) and 'Oštra nula' from Banja Luka will implement a joint street action in Sarajevo and Banja Luka on October 01, 2010, at 12 PM, with the motto “Empty promises are the best advertising”. One of the aims of this action is to remind citizens of the promises given four years ago by the ruling political parties. Wearing t-shirts with slogans “Empty promises are the best advertising” and “THINK on October 3!”, YIHR and ‘Oštra nula’ activists will be distributing packages containing a piece of paper quoting “Empty promises are the best advertising”. The packages will tagged with headings of the likes of: “better healthcare”, “visa free regime”, “education reform”, “more jobs and youth employment”, “European standards of higher education”.

In scope of the Sarajevan action, YIHR activists wish to symbolically demonstrate the authorities’ attitude towards citizens, who are in spite of everything still passive. Therefore, chained and blowing whistles, they will walk from the Cathedral to the BBI Centre, in order to generate Sarajevan citizens’ attention. “Chains symbolize limitation of youth in Bosnia and Herzegovina, who are on the other hand passive and will seldom do anything towards changing the current situation. In cooperation with informal youth group ‘Oštra nula’ from Banja Luka a similar action will be implemented in Banja Luka at the same time, thereby wanting to show that the problems we, young people, have are identical throughout the country, and that politicians have done nothing to change that situation. We, young people, need to change that”, underscored Adis Hukanović, YIHR activist.

The street action will begin simultaneously at 12 PM in Sarajevo and Banja Luka and it is to last for one hour.
